Vara's Backpackers

Vara's offers dorm beds, a variety of single, double and triple rooms with shared bathroom (solar heated showers) or ensuites and self-contained studios apartments with private kitchens. The beachfront lodge houses the two main dormitory rooms (There's an overflow dormitory in one of the houses in the hills), a communal lounge with and kitchen, as well as a few private rooms including one ensuite. The Beach Lodge is raised off the beach with a large communal wooden sundeck for sunbathing and watching the beach activities.

Behind the reception is a two storey building with eight self contained deluxe ensuite rooms, each with private kitchen and ensuite bathroom as well as veranda (no ocean views).

Varas three hillside houses are located a few minutes walk from the Beach Lodge and these offer very affordable and flexible accommodation. Rooms within the houses can be taken as ensuite doubles or shared bath doubles, sharing lounge and kitchen facilities with other guests, or as half houses (for small families) or as private holiday homes with private lounges. The houses are staggered up a hillside with good views overlooking Muri Lagoon and the Apartment House has a swimming pool which can be used by all guests.

Vara's Backpackers lies in the heart of Muri Beach alongside a pretty stretch of sand and facing several islets in the lagoon. The lagoon is protected. shallow and with sandy bottom making it great for swimming but has no waves for bodysurfing. There's decent snorkelling a few hundred metres from the shoreline around one of the islets.

Varas backpackers offers a communal swimming pool at one of the hillside houses, snorkelling gear, spear fishing, bicycles and island tours. All can be arranged from the reception. There's also a communal lounge with internet access.
