Sunset Resort Rarotonga is a small luxury boutique hotel offering peace and tranquillity in a gorgeous, sheltered beachfront location on the west coast of Rarotonga, with magnificent panoramic sunsets. The apartment style rooms are all within walking distance of seven restaurants offering a wide variety of local and international cuisine.

Sunset Resort provides two inviting swimming pools (one freshwater, one salted) for its guests – the only resort in Rarotonga to do so. One has the poolside “Mix & Mingle” Happy Hour Cocktail Bar with shaded seating. The other has a large decorative waterfall, is the biggest on the island, and has a sun deck, with loungers and umbrellas. And of course Sunset enjoys a fabulous beachfront location. The picturesque white-coral sand fringes a dazzling crystal-clear lagoon with excellent snorkelling. The water is shallow but safe for swimming, and snorkelling equipment is available.
The 35 luxury suites and units are all either newly-built or recently-refurbished. Each one is bright and cool, stylishly decorated and fantastically well-equipped with the latest modern furnishings. There are no children under 12 permitted, and the quiet resort with its abundant tropical vegetation provides true relaxation and serenity.
Set amongst lovely, lush tropical flora, all of these deluxe, spacious accommodations are fully air-conditioned, have private decks and balconies with fully-screened louvred shutters. They have separate European-style tiled bathrooms with glass shower doors, comfortable contemporary furniture, TV and DVD player, IDD telephone, radio alarm clock, safe, and colourful Pacific artworks. Each one is self-contained with modern designer kitchens for a self-catered holiday; coming complete with fridge-freezer, microwave, and oven or hob.
There are 7 recently refurbished Beachfront Studios, sleeping 2 people. These are open-plan L-shaped rooms with tiled floors throughout. The private deck has seating and sun lounger, and expansive ocean views, and is just meters from the beach across the attractive lawn. There is also 1 Two–Bedroom Beachfront Unit, that sleeps 5 people.
The 17 Poolside and 4 Garden Studio Suites sleep 2 people and offer the same facilities as the Beachfront Studios, but with a different layout. There are 2 One-Bedroom Poolside Units (both upper-level with balconies), sleeping 3 people, and 4 Two-Bedroom Poolside Units, sleeping 5. For these you can choose between upper-level with balcony, or ground-level with patio and wheelchair access. The 2 double bedrooms both have split-king beds and a wardrobe in each, one of the bedrooms opens onto the patio. These also have 1 bathroom and a second extra toilet.
The newly-built accommodations have been designed to be as environmentally-friendly as possible, making Sunset the only eco-friendly resort on Rarotonga. They feature ‘Thermo-mass Insulation’ to keep cool inside, their own water supply, solar-powered water-heaters, and a waste-management system that provides irrigation to the resorts extremely lush tropical gardens, so there is no discharge produced.
Included in the price is a daily tropical breakfast, served in the covered poolside dining area, which also features a ‘comfy corner’ with sofas and books. There is no restaurant on-site as all the units are self catering, but there is a weekly Sunday BBQ, and several good restaurants within walking distance. Sunset Resort can also cater for weddings. Airport transfers with personal meet and greet service can be arranged for guests and the friendly and knowledgeable staff can arrange tours and excursions. Sunset is located very close to Avarua Town just 8 minutes drive from the airport, and minutes from a golf course. The local bus stops right outside the resort.
