There are 16 small, self-contained units in a block with the focus on the large, well-kept and attractively decorated communal lounge/dining area at the back. The lounge opens out onto a paved sun terrace overlooking the beach, offering fantastic sea views. During whale-watching season (August October) whales can often clearly be seen from the sun terrace. At any time of year the terrace is a lovely place to relax, enjoy a drink or meal and take in the views and the sound of the surf below.
All units are open-plan in their layout, clean and brightly decorated with colourful soft furnishings, and offer the same amenities of shower and toilet, ceiling fans, dining area and wardrobe. All units are self-contained, with kitchen facilities of fridge, 2-ring gas hob, and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a choice of 2 Budget Units (single occupancy) 12 Standard Doubles (with double bed on a mezzanine level, and a single bed downstairs) or 2 Group Units. The 2 single ‘budget’ rooms are smaller with just one single bed, whilst the 2 ‘group units’ sleep 3 people each (1 double plus 1 single) and share an adjoining door so as to be sold as 1 unit for 6 people.
Hotel facilities include sun terrace, communal TV lounge/dining area, honesty bar, board games, library, barbecue, 24-hour reception, and car park. There is a small convenience store next door open 6.5 days a week, and bus stops right outside. There is direct access to the coral ‘reef-walking’ beach below, which has clean clear water but is only suitable for swimming and snorkelling at high tide, as the sea is rocky on the bottom.
Overall the Paradise Inn is a somewhat quirky hotel; clean and well-kept with friendly staff and management. With a policy of not permitting under 12’s, and conveniently situated at the southern end of Avarua Town, the Paradise Inn is a great choice for sociable adults, couples and groups seeking a base close to facilities, from which to explore the island and enjoy an active holiday.
